Take a look at some of the top Halloween movies of all times, for adults and for kids.
Halloween
“Halloween” is naturally one of those movies that makes the list of top 10 Halloween movies of all time. Arguably one of roles that Jamie Lee Curtis is famous for, the “Halloween” movies are filled with everything that makes movies scary. Lists of Top 10 Halloween Movies of All Time
You’ll find several lists of “top 10” Halloween movies and each has at least slightly differing opinions. One is located at http://www.infoplease.com/spot/halloweenmovies1.html and their list includes “Silence of the Lambs,” “Psycho,” “The Exorcist,” “Alien,” “The Shining,” “Nightmare on Elm Street,” “Jacob’s Ladder,” “The Mummy,” “Seven” and the 1922 account of Dracula called “Nosferatu.” This list claims to have intentionally left out “The Blair Witch Project” and other films that are “formula slashfests.”
Another list that was compiled from an online poll is located at http://www.scaryhorrormovies.com/top_10_scariest_horror_movies.htm. Several of the movies are the same, including “Psycho” and “Nightmare on Elm Street.” Movies that are different on this list include “Salem’s Lot,” “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “Jaws,” “Night of the Living Dead,” and “Pet Semetary.”
Bella Online has a similar listing of top 10 Halloween movies, only these are listed by popularity of DVD rental for the season. This list includes “Jeepers Creepers,” “The Thing,” “Scream,” “Friday the 13th,” “The Others,” and “The Evil Dead.” You’ll find this list along with a description of the movies at http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art5656.asp.
A less-than-serious top 10 list can be found at http://www.uttertrash.net/halloweentopten.htm. While most of the movies listed here won’t be found on any other list, that may be a good reason to check out this list.
There are lots of other favorite Halloween movies, but you’ll have to decide for yourself what scares you most. Are you looking for blood and gore? Maybe the thrillers are more to your liking. Or perhaps you’ll go back to some of the old classics such as Frankenstein.
Top Movies for Kids
There are also lots of movies that are scary on a kid’s level. Depending on the age of your audience, you may opt for “Monsters, Inc,” a delightful movie about the monster in the closet. This one is animated and great for the tiny tykes, but it also has some good laughs for the older folks.
“Little Monsters” “Hocus Pocus” and “The Little Vampire” are also Halloween favorites for the young crowd. Though these are slightly more advanced than cartoons, they’re still fairly tame.
If your audience is to be a bit older, you’ll find some good options in “Interview With a Vampire,” “Hell Boy,” “The Underworld,” “Van Helsing” or “Sleepy Hollow.” Looking for something a bit more tame or something for a “girls night out?” Check out Sandra Bullock and Kim Bassinger in “Practical Magic.”
Remember when you’re choosing scary movies for kids that the idea is to offer those delicious frights, not scare them so badly that everyone is begging to sleep with mom and dad. After all, even adults don’t want to be that scared.
